the engineering group. we have dan -- who i see i missed. excuse me. we have dpw who did the design for the area. we have them with the living classroom and maybe it was going to be in another area but it's going to be here at the port of san francisco and had the help of a number of agencies and the parks department and keeping as gorgeous and welcoming as it is. this part was not a park for long. originally this was supposed to be a terminal and imagine if we can containers stacked around here. instead we have a place for humans to come and enjoy, dogs to come and enjoy, the children come and learn about the natural habitat about one of the areas that is best weather wise and we are proud to reinvent ourselves and use our ability to make it all better. i would like to thank the mta with their vision and the blue green way on cargo lane and of course last but not least the park of rec and park and without them we wouldn't be here today having this great celebration and i hope you come back with your dogs, with your families and picnic and enjoy yourself very much so thank you again. in government for 23 years, i've been at those departments like dpw and others where we think in one dimension. this is where we clean the streets. this is how often we clean it. this is when we tell the cars to move off. and this is what dpw does and it does it pretty well within that constraint. if you shared that data with companies who are looking at where do people live, how -- what their patterns are, we can get a lot more creative. when we open our data, when we suggest to departments that they can work in collaboration, when we open up and establish within our city contracts that the companies that do service for us do not own the data that they generate from us, that they will have a contractual obligation to share that with the city so that we can mine that to the rest of the city, that's advance of opportunities for everybody. i know at the heart of sharing this data, there is going to be a lot more jobs created, a lot more people out therein venting new ways to establish small businesses that will improve the way we live and work and play in the city. and we look forward to great e

. this is what rec and park does very well with dpw with all of the capital leadership in the city that i got to work on with the city administrator. we need to take care of the infrastructure in many ways and we are loving our parks and why we want this great investment to continue and this is another small yet important addition. we will have $35 million more of that with the connection with the port and the next bond so it serves as a great example how we use the park bonds to of benefit of all of our users and residents and especially because we want our southeast sector to continue evolving in a positive way for everybody. it has been a trial for many of the residents here for many years because of the leadership of the different agencies working together with environmental advocates to make sure we strike that right balance we can have the spaces used for the different use and it is enjoyment of the environment at the same time for the residents. thank you for being here with this announcement. we get four things out of this. a dog run, heron's head park with the landscape and wonde

and park and the port and, of course, our dpw department. i want to thank the mayor and your commissioners for really helping to see this through. and i want to take a moment and thank the community. so many of you here are our merchants, are our members of labor, are our neighborhood leaders who have really come together. we see representatives from our hotels, folks who represent every type of business along in waterfront big and small. but for your support over the years, we wouldn't be here today. when i came in office four years ago, i was told by the constituents of these neighborhoods that we needed to invest in our waterfront. and four years later we're on the eve of cutting the ribbon for the explore atorium. * we just passed a bond measure that will bring two waterfront parks a few blocks from here. this won be possible but for the vision and the foresight that we all have about what we want a 21st century waterfront to look like. i want to thank you for that. i don't see any of my colleagues here. i'm going to say the following. i think this may be the most beautiful vista vanta

between port and dpw and through the -- using two procedures, that's our mayor has been promoting for the last 12 months. one is broadening of construction projects and the second is prompt payment. so, when we started in early october, we gathered the entire project team. the contractor his subs, suppliers, the port staff, the consultants, dpw and we agreed on a plan to move forward. we agreed on the deadline and on a weekly basis, we met to hash out every single detail so we can meet this deadline. the contractor told us if you want to move fast, you need to pay us fast. instead of the 230 day city policy that we use on other projects, on this project we managed to pay the contractor within five days. so, and like i said, this is what you see, you know, today. i want to thank mayor ed lee for his vision and leadership and for his directive to make the partnering on construction projects and prompt payments and to make it much, much easier for small and large contractors to do business in the city. i want to thank monique and the port for their confidence in public works and for
